AFROMOSIA 4/4 

Also known as African veneer, this hardwood species is highly sought-after for its texture, strength, density, and durability. Typical uses are for the manufacture of boats, veneers, and furniture.

ALDER 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 8/4 

Its common uses are making furniture, cabinets, and as a hardwood for woodworking products. It is also highly regarded by electric guitar manufacturers for its tone.

ASH 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 8/4, 10/4, 12/4, 16/4 

It is a light, shock-resistant, light-colored, and smooth-grained hardwood—one of the preferred choices for making fine furniture and baseball bats.

EUROPEAN STEAMED BEECH 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 8/4, 10/4 

It is steamed to bring out the pinkish color and to make it ideal for machining. It is flexible and is commonly used for furniture, light construction, tool handles, paneling, and musical instruments. 

SEL. CAR OAK 4X4, 4X6, 6X6, 6X8 

It has a medium yellow-brown color. It has excellent resistance to rot. Its best uses are cabinet-making, furniture, flooring, boatbuilding, interior trim, and veneer.

SPANISH CEDAR 4/4, 8/4 

Its color is a uniform light-pinkish to reddish-brown. It is easy to work with, but extra sanding will be required to create a smooth wood surface. Typical uses are veneer, plywood, humidors, and musical instruments—also a preferred choice for making cigar boxes because of its scent. 

CHERRY 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 8/4, 10/4, 12/4, 16/4 

The heartwood is smooth-grained and has a reddish-brown appearance. It is easy to work with and is prized for its use in furniture making because of its color. Newer furniture made from cherry wood starts light pink and changes to a darker color over time. 

HICKORY 4/4, 8/4 

It is stiff, dense, hard, and challenging to work with, but is a good material for tool handles, golf club shafts, walking sticks, and paddles. It has an efficient energy-retaining quality, making it a preferred wood for barbecuing and smoking cured meats.

IPE (S4S) 1X6 

Ipe is very durable with excellent insect resistance. It is an ideal decking material and is a good material for furniture. Workability is very challenging due to its hardness and density.

IROKO 4/4, 8/4 

This species of wood has easy workability. It comes in yellow to medium brown. Because of its workability, it is suitable for turned items. Typical uses are for veneer, flooring, cabinetry, and furniture.

LACEWOOD 4/4 

It has a freckled appearance, hence its name. It has relatively easy workability and can take glues and stains well. Its common uses are veneer, turned objects, fine furniture, cabinetry, and guitar-making.

AFRICAN MAHOGANY 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 8/4, 10/4, 12/4, 16/4 

It comes in variable colors, from pale pink to deep reddish-brown. Easy to work with among hardwoods and can take glue easily. It also finishes nicely. Its attractive appearance makes it a good interior trim material. It is also commonly used for furniture, turned items, plywood, and veneer.

GENUINE MAHOGANY 4/4, 8/4 

Genuine Mahogany comes in variable colors, from pale pink to darker reddish-brown. It has easy workability with both hand and machine tools and can sand easily. It is a preferred decking material and is also commonly used for carving, musical instruments, cabinetry, and furniture.

HARD MAPLE 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 8/4, 10/4, 12/4, 16/4 

The sapwood color is off-white, though sometimes it comes with a reddish or yellowish hue. It has relatively easy workability, can turn, and finishes nicely. It is typically a preferred choice for flooring, such as basketball hardcourts, and also a preferred wood for cutting boards, butcher blocks, and baseball bats.

SOFT MAPLE 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 8/4, 10/4 

Its appearance compared to hard maple is quite similar. Soft maple is different from the hard maple variety because it has a lower hardness reading. It has good steam bending capabilities, and polishes well, and presents less challenging workability than hard maple. Its typical uses are furniture, kitchen cabinets, paneling, doors, and turned items.

PADAUK 4/4, 8/4 

It comes in a pale pinkish-orange to deep brownish-red and is heavy, stiff, and strong. This species is very durable and has good termite and insect resistance. Padauk has easy workability, can be turned, and finished well. Its common uses are furniture, veneer, flooring, tool handles, and musical instruments. Hobbyists prefer this wood to make small specialty wood items.

POPLAR 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 8/4, 10/4, 12/4, 16/4 

It comes in many color types. The most popular is the yellow poplar, which comes in light cream to yellowish-brown. Along with other poplar species, it is one of America's most common utility hardwoods. Though considered a hardwood, it is known for its low density and has easy workability. Furniture frames, paper (pulpwood), crates, pallets, veneer, and plywood are the most common uses.

PURPLE HEART 4/4, 8/4

Also known as amaranth, its color is distinguishable for its purplish-brown hue when freshly cut. It turns a deeper eggplant purple once exposed. Its common uses are flooring, furniture, heavy construction, and boatbuilding. Its unique color makes it a good material for specialty wood items and accent pieces. It presents some unique challenges when worked on.

This variety of balau comes in a dark reddish-brown color. It is very dense and is challenging to work with. While it is available here for decking, other common uses for this species are general utility purposes, plywood, veneer, and flooring. 

RED OAK 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 8/4, 10/4, 12/4 

It is commonly a reddish shade with heartwood that has a light to medium brown color. It responds well to steam bending and produces good results with both hand and machine tools. Its common uses are furniture, cabinetry, interior trim, veneer, and flooring.

ROSEWOOD (CHECHEN/CARIBBEAN) 4/4 

Its color can come in red, brown, or orange with stripes of very dark brown. It is very durable and has moderate insect resistance. It has reasonably easy workability, turns, and finishes nicely. It is highly dense, making it a challenge to nail. It is commonly used for veneer, cabinetry, flooring, furniture, small specialty wood items, and turned objects.

ROSEWOOD (SANTOS) 4/4 

Its color can come in red, brown, or orange with stripes of very dark brown. It is very durable and has moderate insect resistance. It has reasonably easy workability, turns, and finishes nicely. It is highly dense, making it a challenge to nail. It is commonly used for veneer, cabinetry, flooring, furniture, small specialty wood items, and turned objects.

SAPELE 4/4, 8/4 

It comes in dark reddish-brown to yellowish colors. Workability is challenging. Popular uses are furniture, veneer, plywood, cabinetry, boatbuilding, flooring, and turned objects.

TEAK (FEQ) 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 8/4 

Heartwood is available in golden or medium brown and its color darkens with age. Its high silica content makes it blunt the cutting edges of saws easier than most hardwood species. Workability is reasonably easy with both hand and machine tools. It makes an excellent material for furniture, veneer, house sidings, and other exterior construction uses. It is a preferred decking material.

WALNUT (FAS) 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 8/4, 10/4, 12/4, 16/4 

The most common heartwood color is a light pale brown. It can also come in a dark chocolate brown with dark brown streaks. Walnut is very popular among woodworkers because its workability is typically easy, though planing presents some challenges. It receives staining and glues easily. The most common uses are gunstocks, furniture, musical instruments, veneer, cabinet-making, and accent pieces.

WALNUT (#1-COM) 5/4, 6/4, 8/4

#1 common grade is the standard furniture grade for walnut at a reasonable price with long, medium, and short cuttings available.

WENGE 4/4, 8/4 

It comes in a medium brown color with almost black streaks and has excellent strength and hardness qualities. Workability is challenging with both hand and machine tools. The most common uses are veneer, furniture, paneling, musical instruments, and turned objects. 

WHITE OAK (RUSTIC) 4/4  

White oak presents exceptional value for furniture and woodworkers because of its durability, availability, and ease of workability. It comes in light brown to medium brown. All varieties stain well. White oak is a popular flooring material, and the combinations available here suit different finishes. Other common uses are cabinetry, interior trim, decking, boatbuilding, and veneer.

WHITE OAK (FAS) 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 8/4, 10/4, 12/4, 16/4 

Flat-sawn white oak is when it is cut parallel to the width of the board. Flatsawn is the most economical of cuts for white oak.

WHITE OAK (RIFT SAWN) 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 8/4 

Rift-sawn white oak is when it is cut at an angle between 30 and 60 degrees to the face of the board. Rift-sawn white oak is very dimensionally stable.

WHITE OAK (QTR SAWN) 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 8/4  

Quartersawn is when the lumber is cut at an angle between 60 and 90 degrees relative to the board, making this the most dimensionally stable of all cuts for white oak.

ZEBRAWOOD 4/4, 8/4

Its pattern of light brown and dark brown streaks resembles zebra stripes. It is very strong with a relatively high density and lovely appearance. Workability is challenging because of its stiffness and difficulty of planing. The most common uses are for veneer, tool handles, furniture, skis, and boatbuilding.

This softwood has easy workability and is suitable for hand carving. It comes in a light brown and pale white color. Other uses are musical instruments, veneer, plywood, fiber products, and wood pulp.

#1 COM. TENN. CEDAR 4/4 (AROMATIC

Known for its aromatic scent, it comes in a uniform reddish-brown color. It is preferred for linen cabinets because of its resistance to insects, particularly moths. It is easy to work with and can be made into small wooden specialty items, fence posts, closet and chest linings, and outdoor furniture.   

WEST. RED CEDAR V.G. 2X6 

The heartwood is pinkish-brown to reddish. It has a strong, lingering aromatic scent when being worked and has easy workability with hand or machine tools. Its common uses are shingles, crates, exterior siding, and lumber.

VERT. GRAIN DOUG FIR 1X6, 1X8, 2X4, 2X5, 2X6, 2X8 

While this wood usually comes light brown, its color varies depending on harvest site and age. Douglas fir accepts stains and glues readily. It can be machined and finished well. Typical uses for this species include veneer, plywood, and construction lumber.

SUGAR PINE (#2-COM S4S) 1X12, 2X12 

#2 COM is the standard grade of Sugar Pine for millwork, cabinets, and other uses requiring short to medium cuttings.

SUGAR PINE (MLDG. ROUGH) 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 8/4 

The heartwood comes in a light brown color with a slightly reddish hue sometimes. It is commonly used as construction lumber, particularly in California, and is also widely used for crates, boxes, musical instruments (piano keys), and interior millwork. It is very easy to work with both hand and machine tools.
